BRANDING
DIGITAL
STRATEGY

*|FNAME|*, stop being useless at your company social media.

Are you struggling to gain traction on social media? You're not alone. Depending on the research you look at, anything from 40% to 85% of marketers struggle to implement effective social media strategies. Why? Because they're viewing social media in the context of their own experiences, not the position of a brand.

Mistakes that people make.
  • Using any and all social media platforms, no matter what.
  • Posting sentences and links instead of creating original content.
  • Thinking that they can do it themselves. I post on my own Facebook page every day, so why can't I do that for a company?
  • Only thinking about the number of likes a page has, instead of the engagement.

How to fix this.
  • Stop and consider who your target market is. Do they really spend time on Instagram? Or Pinterest? Or Twitter? No? Then don't bother using these platforms.
  • Come to realise that social media is a PR activity. You're trying to create a positive experience of your brand online. You should not be trying to sell things on your Facebook page.
  • Approach it as you would in a personal capacity. If you're following a brand, do you really want to see links to other websites every day? No? What do you want to see? Images? Competitions? Videos?
  • Create original content. This is a biggy. Just reposting stuff from other people doesn't help your cause. Create something new and interesting. You'll be amazed at the transformation.
  • Forget about likes and followers. A truly great page might have 1 000 followers and lots of involvement, while a poor page could have 100 000 likes and noengagement. That's because the smaller page has 1 000 guaranteed customers and the larger has none.

Next week we have a look at email marketing and why you should be using it.
