Adwords for Dummies

In your advertising exploits, you may come across some terms that don’t make any sense to you. Adwords, PPC, CPC, and Adsense might be some of them. Welcome to the two paragraph guide to Adwords.

The reality of the world today is that websites are a critical part of any company's success. But having a website isn't enough. People need to find your website, and the best way to that is using Google and other search engines. And not only do people need to find your website, but they also need to interact with it easily. We can't have users leaving because the menu doesn't make sense.

Google Adwords is Google’s biggest income generator – bringing over 80% of its $42.5 billion revenue and making it one of the largest companies in the world. The concept is simple yet powerful – allow SMEs and large corporates alike the opportunity to match their adverts to their target market through online searches. The idea took off massively because it took an expensive exercise of advertising and made it affordable for every business.

All you need to do to see the power of Adwords is to type a search into Google (such as “plumbers in Johannesburg”). The top three results and the list down the right side are all Adwords advertising. These adverts are carefully selected by the person that created them (presumably a professional) and Google to best find their target market – you.

In short, Google Adwords, pay-per-click, cost-per-click, and Adsense are cost effective and powerful tools that every business should make use of.
