Bounce Rates and How to Improve Them

Many of our clients look at the website reports we give them and don’t fully understand the technicalities of the data. In particular, one question that comes up often is “what is a bounce rate?”

Bounce rate, in its simplest form, is the percentage of people that leave a website after viewing only one page. In general, this is taken to mean that the person viewing the page has not found what they’re looking for and decided to leave. Every industry has different bounce rates, and even within industries it can vary widely. This makes it difficult to pinpoint what a reasonable bounce rate should be. Nonetheless, it’s important to continually try to improve it.
